As told to Mustang enthusiast Anthony
S. Alonso, who currently owns a black 2001 Bullitt and previously an
azure blue 2003 Mach 1, this Mustang Enthusiast book "ENGINEER + ENTHUSIAST = EXCITEMENT" relates the
journey to bring two special edition Mustang models to market for the last
“hurrah” of the SN-95 Mustang line.
From concept car to
production model, the 2001 Bullitt started production in spring 2001, an
astounding 14 months after being displayed as a concept at the 2000 Los
Angeles Auto Show. The 2003/04 Mach 1 was planned while the Bullitt was
still in development and released in late 2002. Scott’s passion, fueled
by his long-time enthusiast focus and his engineering know-how within
the Ford Motor Company system, resulted in two well-received vehicles.
Each car was a look back and celebration of the heritage of a well-known
movie car from 1968 and optional model from 1969/70.
reminisces with the reader in his subtle but humorous style, providing a
first-hand account of what it took to shepherd two special Mustangs to
market. He tells the tale of working at Ford Motor Company and employing
a careful balance of teamwork, dedication, and vision. The fruits of
that labor were for those among the most dedicated of Ford’s customers –
the performance car enthusiast. The 2001 Bullitt inspired the making of
the 2008/09 and 2019 editions. Scott also reflects on those versions
and the possibilities of future feature cars.
