MRT Exhaust Products for 2013-2020 86

Below are the four MRT exhaust options available for the 86:

  • MRT Extreme Header‑Back System (98Z150T)
A full header-back performance system that replaces the factory header, mid-pipe, and muffler sections. This aggressive setup gives maximum flow, louder tone, and full exhaust continuity.
  • MRT Street Race Header Back Exhaust (98Z150t)
Extreme is the loudest MRT exhaust. Louder than Version 2 and Version 1 systems. It has just enough exhaust presence with elevated sound to Get Noticed, plenty of opportunity to Feel the Performance and packaged in a design without excessive drone.
  • MRT Street Race Twin Exit Axle Back Exhaust (91Z151t)
A loud, deep muscle car sound and is handcrafted in corrosion resistant T304 Stainless Steel. Base systems include T304 polished SS 4" tips and 2.5" mandrel bent tube.
  • MRT Street Race Single Exit Axle Back Exhaust (91Z152)
This is a louder, performance-focused option. The single-exit system brings deep, aggressive sound under throttle, while still aiming to keep drone under control at cruising speeds.

Why Choose MRT for the 86?

Tone Versatility & Performance

From the full Extreme Header-Back down to the Sport Touring Axle Back, MRT offers options to suit your sound goals. The header-back gives the loudest, most free-flowing experience. The Sport Touring strikes a balance of refinement and aggression. The Street Race Single Exit leans toward the bold side without excessive overtones.

Quality Materials & Longevity

All MRT 86 exhausts use premium T304 stainless steel, which resists corrosion, heat cycling, and road elements better than lower-grade metals.

Installation & Fitment

These systems are designed with bolt-on compatibility, using factory hangers and supplied hardware. Most installations take between 1 to 3 hours for experienced DIYers.

Daily Usability

While the Exhaust options push sound boundaries, MRT keeps drone management in mind — especially in the Sport Touring or single-exit builds — so the inside of your 86 remains livable on highways and in daily driving.

FAQs: MRT Performance Exhaust for the Toyota 86

Q1: Do I need ECU tuning after installing an MRT exhaust on a Toyota 86?

Generally, no, but it can improve the performance of these off-road or race-only exhaust upgrades. MRT systems are designed to decrease backpressure and integrate with the factory ECU. Only heavily modified engines (boost, fueling, cams) might benefit from a tune.

Q2: Which option is loudest: header-back or single-exit?

The Extreme Header-Back (98Z150T) offers the most exhaust freedom and tends to deliver the loudest, rawest tone. The Street Race Single Exit (91Z152) is aggressive too, but typically a bit tamer than full header-back in terms of raw power.

Q3: Can I install an MRT exhaust on my Toyota 86 at home?

Yes. All MRT 86 systems are built with DIY installation in mind. Use basic hand tools, follow the included instructions, and expect install times between 1 and 3 hours, depending on your experience and workspace.

Q4: Will upgrading the exhaust on my Toyota 86 void my warranty?

Installing an MRT exhaust on your Toyota 86 does not void your car's warranty because it’s a simple install that requires very little, if any, modification.

Q5: What’s the difference between Sport Touring and Street Race versions?

The Sport Touring (91Z154) version emphasizes balance — a sportier tone but with daily usability — whereas the Street Race (91Z152) is louder under throttle, with more aggressive sound character.
